5 Simple Mother’s Day Cocktails

Treat Mom this Mother’s Day with a beautiful (& tasty) cocktail!

It’s time to raise a glass to all the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures whose hard work & dedication make the world go round. We know we couldn’t it do it without them, so let’s mix up a cocktail (or two) in their honour— they most certainly deserve it!

1. Royal Treatment

The name says it all: give Mom the ‘Royal Treatment’ with this spectacular sip! Boasting fresh berries, sweet white cranberry juice and a little bit of bubbly, it’s a favourite for this occasion year after year.

Ingredients
  • 1½ oz Empress 1908 Gin
  • 3 oz White Cranberry Juice
  • Sparkling Wine, to top
  • Fresh Berries (we love Raspberries, Blackberries & Blueberries)
  • Kiwis, peeled & sliced
  • Fresh Mint
Method

Build ingredients in a stemless wine glass. Top with sparkling wine, and lightly stir. Garnish with kiwi slices (skin removed), berries, and a mint leaf.

2. Berry blossom

The ‘Berry Blossom’ by @tarynstastingtable is a delicious toast to spring flavours that you loved ones will adore! Refreshing, sweet and seasonal it’s sure to please the crowd.

Ingredients:
  • 1½ oz Empress 1908 Gin
  • ¾ oz Raspberry Syrup
  • ½ oz Grapefruit Liqueur
  • 2 oz Soda Water
METHOD:

Pour raspberry syrup and grapefruit liqueur into a cocktail glass. Add ice and soda water. Float Empress 1908 Gin. Stir, garnish and enjoy!

3. Gin & Jam sour

With ideal ingredients for a Mother’s Day gift basket, @heartbeetkitchen’s Gin & Jam Sour is just as delicious as it looks. Pop in a jar of your favourite local jam or jelly, a few lemons, farm fresh eggs, a bottle of Empress 1908 Gin & some flowers to garnish, and you’ve got yourself the perfect gift (and a delightful cocktail, too!)

Ingredients
  • 2 oz Empress 1908 Gin
  • 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 2 tsp Strawberry Jam
  • 1 Egg White (or 1 oz Aqua Faba)
  • Pinch Salt
Method

Add lemon juice, jam, gin, pinch of salt, to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake for 30 seconds to chill. Strain into your glass, discard ice/pulp, then return mix to shaker. Add egg white; dry shake for 30 seconds. Pour into coupe glass and garnish with edible flowers if desired.

4. Butterfly Queen

Ingredients
  • ½ oz Empress 1908 Gin
  • ¾ oz Lemon Juice
  • ¾ oz Ginger & Rosewater Simple Syrup*
  • Sparkling Water
Method

Build in a glass over ice. Garnish with a citrus peel butterfly.

*For the syrup: combine ½ cup sugar with ½ cup hot water and stir to dissolve the sugar. Add 2 tbsp ginger juice, ½ tsp rosewater, and 1 drop pink food coloring (optional).

5. CUCUMBER ROSE COLLINS

Finally, try out this new favourite from @bitesizedstudio. Better than a bouquet, the fresh and floral flavours in this pretty pink sip are sure to have anyone reaching for more!

Ingredients
  • 1½ oz Empress 1908 Gin
  • ½ oz Lemon Juice
  • ½ oz Honey Rose Syrup (recipe below*)
  • 5 Cucumber Slices
  • Sparkling Water
Method

Add the cucumber slices, lemon juice, and honey rose syrup to a cocktail shaker and muddle. Add the Empress 1908 Gin and fill the shaker with ice. Shake to chill and combine, and strain into a glass with ice. Top with sparkling water and garnish with a cucumber ribbon or rose.

*honey rose syrup

Add ⅓ cup rosewater and ⅓ cup honey to a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir over heat for 2-3 minutes, until the honey has dissolved. Remove from heat, cool and voilà!

(NOTE: For a slightly less floral option, dilute the rosewater prior to use.)
